McPherson Soccer Falls to Rose Hill in State Quarterfinal

Bullpups season ends with 0-3 loss, but team's resilience and senior leadership leave lasting legacy

McPherson Soccer Falls to Rose Hill in State Quarterfinal

The McPherson Bullpups season came to an end Tuesday night with a 0-3 loss to Rose Hill in the state quarterfinal. Goalkeeper Gabe Standfast kept McPherson in the game with 11 saves, while the Bullpups managed five shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net against a determined Rockets squad.

The game turned early when Rose Hill was awarded a penalty kick on a controversial handball call, converting to take a 1-0 lead despite McPherson's strong start. The Bullpups nearly equalized just before halftime when a shot rattled off the inside of the post, but Rose Hill capitalized on counterattack opportunities to extend their lead to 3-0 by the break. McPherson continued to press in the second half, refusing to quit despite the deficit, but couldn't break through the Rockets' defense.

The loss ends a successful campaign that saw McPherson reach the state quarterfinals for the third time in four years—a testament to the program's consistency and competitive excellence. The senior class leaves behind a legacy of sustained success, having helped establish the Bullpups as one of the state's top programs. While the season didn't end the way they hoped, this team proved all year they belonged among Kansas' elite, battling toe-to-toe with the state's best week after week.
