McPherson Soccer Bounces Back with Thrilling 3-2 Victory
Bullpups overcome early deficit and adversity to defeat Wichita Northwest

The McPherson High School boys soccer team showed remarkable resilience Thursday night, overcoming an early deficit and significant adversity to defeat Wichita Northwest 3-2 in a thrilling comeback victory.
Following Tuesday's heartbreaking loss, the Bullpups faced additional challenges with sore legs and a key defender missing due to illness. However, Head Coach Chris Adrian emphasized that "adversity equals opportunity," and his players responded accordingly.
Northwest struck first, but McPherson answered before halftime when Manny Morales found the back of the net off an assist from Yahir Valadez to level the score at 1-1.
The Bullpups came out with renewed energy in the second half, taking the lead just two minutes after the restart. Parker Riemann capitalized on a rebound to score his first high school career goal, giving McPherson a 2-1 advantage.
The team maintained their attacking mentality, extending their lead when Morales turned playmaker, setting up Jackson Martin for a spectacular long-distance shot that beat the Northwest goalkeeper. Martin's goal proved crucial as Northwest managed to pull one back, setting up a tense finish.
Despite the late pressure, McPherson's defense held firm to secure the victory. Goalkeeper Gabe Standfast made four saves while the Bullpups managed six shots on goal throughout the match.
"I love how the team played and came together," said Adrian. "Players that didn't play much Tuesday stepped up and made a huge difference tonight. They played tough and hung on to get a big time win."
