MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson USD 418 Board of Education has selected Cody Rierson as the district's next superintendent, formally approving the hire at a special board meeting. Rierson, a McPherson native who currently leads Moundridge USD 423, will replace Shiloh Vincent, who steps down June 30 to become executive director of ESSDACK, a Hutchinson-based educational services organization. Rierson's contract officially begins July 1.

"McPherson Public Schools are home to me, and I'm excited to get to work," Rierson said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to give back and work tirelessly on behalf of the students, staff, and community at USD 418." Board President Lara Vanderhoof said the hire comes at a pivotal moment for the district. "Dr. Rierson's unique blend of experience and relational leadership aligns perfectly with our district's goals, ensuring our transition into new facilities and modern learning models is both seamless and inspired," she said.

Rierson brings 19 years of experience in education, including eight years as principal of McPherson's Lincoln Elementary School. Before becoming Moundridge superintendent in July 2021, he served as a principal in Caldwell USD 360, as an administrative intern at McPherson's Eisenhower Elementary and as a teacher in DeSoto USD 232. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Wichita State University in 2018. The board selected Rierson from a field of three finalists following staff and community surveys, focus groups and meet-and-greet events. The appointment marks a homecoming for Rierson, whose wife, Abbey, is chief of staff at McPherson College. The couple has four children.
