McPherson school board seeks public input to replace outgoing superintendent

MCPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson residents have a chance to weigh in on what they want in the next leader of the city's public schools as the district moves to replace outgoing Superintendent Shiloh Vincent by July.

Vincent, who has led USD 418 since 2020 and worked in the district for nine years, is resigning June 30 to become executive director of ESSDACK, a Hutchinson-based educational service agency. His successor will inherit a district in transition, taking over just after voters approved two facility bond questions March 3 with 63.6% and 60.2% support, respectively. The new leader also will need to navigate ongoing statewide school funding battles.

To help the McPherson Public Schools Board of Education select a candidate equipped for those challenges, the district has launched an online survey and scheduled a public focus group. Community members can share input on the most important characteristics for the next superintendent during an in-person session at 5 p.m. April 1 at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave.

The nonpartisan school board will use public feedback to evaluate candidates after the application window closes April 6. Screening will begin April 8, with interviews and a final hiring decision expected later in the month so the new superintendent can begin July 1.
