McPherson Returns Home with Victory Over Augusta
McPherson holds off Augusta in competitive home opener
McPHERSON — After weeks of playing on the road while flood damage was repaired, the McPherson Bullpups finally returned home Tuesday night and made it a memorable homecoming with a hard-fought 60-55 victory over the Augusta Orioles at the historic Roundhouse.
The win was particularly sweet for the Bullpups, who had been forced to play all of their pre-break games away from home while the gymnasium floor was being restored. The renovated court proved to be a welcoming sight as McPherson held off a persistent Augusta squad.
Freshman Eli Reasoner led the Bullpups with a game-high 22 points, going 7-for-12 from the field and an impressive 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Reasoner also dominated the boards with 8 rebounds.
Jett Pyle added 13 points while dishing out 3 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds. Ashton Malm contributed 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, providing balanced scoring for the Bullpups. Cole Cooper chipped in 8 points and was a force on defense with 3 steals.
For Augusta, Brody Haskell was magnificent in a losing cause, pouring in 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Brody Chappell added 12 points, while Brecken Albert scored 10 points and Brice Martin contributed 8 points.
With the victory, the Bullpups improve to 3-5 on the season and will look to build momentum now that they're back on their home court.
