McPherson Parks Bloom with New Green Initiatives
Pollinator garden and Hess Park transformation highlight city's beautification efforts

MCPHERSON, KS — The City of McPherson is cultivating a greener future with two major park projects currently underway. A new pollinator garden will soon flourish in the area east of the recently developed pickleball courts near Fire Station No. 1, thanks in part to a generous donation of flower pots from local resident Troy Wiens. The butterfly-friendly space will add bursts of color while providing crucial habitat for pollinators, building on the landscaping improvements already made in partnership with the McPherson Recreation Commission. Citizens interested in supporting the project through donations of native seeds, garden materials, trees, fencing, or park amenities can contact the Public Lands and Facilities Office at 620.245.2565.
Meanwhile, Hess Park is embarking on an ambitious 3-to-5-year transformation following the installation of a new irrigation system. Park staff have begun the first phase by treating sections of existing grass to prepare for new growth later this year, with signs posted asking residents to avoid treated areas for safety. The long-term vision includes new trees, plants, and flowers designed to create a more inviting and scenic community space. These dual initiatives reflect McPherson's ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and supporting environmental sustainability through thoughtful urban landscaping.
