Michael Lee Schoenecker June 15, 1958 - April 13, 2025

Michael Lee “Mikey” Schoenecker, a longtime resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer on April 13 at the age of 66. Growing up in McPherson, Kansas, with his loving parents, six sisters, and two brothers, Mike was devoted to his family. He carried the values of his Midwestern upbringing with him when he moved to Texas and eventually settled in Phoenix, Arizona.

For many years, Mike dedicated his professional life to Maricopa County, serving as a skilled and reliable locksmith. His commitment and expertise were highly valued by colleagues and the many people he assisted throughout his career. Mike never hesitated to lend a hand in a crisis; while on duty, he witnessed a car plunge into a canal. Without hesitation, Mike jumped into the water and pulled two kids out from the backseat to safety, just as the car flipped over with the mother still inside and water quickly filling her vehicle. He was able to rescue her and get her to safety. He also received commendation from the Phoenix Police when he saw an officer in trouble and a crowd gathering. Mike quickly stepped in to assist until the officer was able to handcuff the suspect.

The cornerstone of Mike’s life was his loving marriage to Andrea. Together for 24 years, they built a strong and cherished partnership filled with the love of friends and pets. His devotion to Andrea and their dogs was evident in every aspect of his life.

Family was incredibly important to Mike. He was blessed with a large family and cherished the moments spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ida Mae, and his brothers Sam and Bob. Mike is survived by his wife Andrea Lee (Keilback); sisters Bev (Dennis) Burch, Sandy (Jay) Krehbiel, Linda (Tommy) Nutt, Christy (Brian) Crowther, Connie Jo (Harold) Krug, Mary Kay (Brad) Johnson; sister-in-law Peggy Schoenecker; Aunt Margaret (Margie) Nett; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mike was an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns and NASCAR, with his favorite driver being the late Dale Earnhardt. His hobbies included working on his beloved Scout, home improvements, watching MMA, listening to country music, Friday night poker with family and friends around the dining room table, occasional trips to the casinos, backyard barbecues, and patrolling his neighborhood. When Mike wasn’t grilling hamburger patties for his dogs, you could find him cooking the best Green Chili stew you’ve ever tasted.

Mike’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his passion, strength, and determination. As one of his friends said, he was fearless and a man of his word.

Memorials may be made to the McPherson Humane Society or the McPherson Animal Shelter.

A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at First Christian Church in McPherson
