McPherson names Moundridge superintendent as second finalist for top schools post
Cody Rierson, a former Lincoln Elementary principal, will interview Monday evening to replace departing Superintendent Shiloh Vincent
MCPHERSON, Kan. — A familiar face could soon lead McPherson Public Schools.
Moundridge Superintendent Cody Rierson, who previously spent eight years as an elementary school principal in McPherson, was announced Monday as the second finalist for the district's top job.
The USD 418 Board of Education is seeking a replacement for Superintendent Shiloh Vincent, who will step down June 30 to become executive director of ESSDACK, a Hutchinson-based educational services organization. Rierson will field questions from the public during a meet-and-greet from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday at the district's Central Office, 514 N. Main St., before a formal closed-door interview with the school board at 5:30 p.m.
If selected, the appointment would mark a homecoming for the McPherson native. Before becoming superintendent of Moundridge USD 423 in July 2021, Rierson served as principal of McPherson's Lincoln Elementary School. His 19-year career in education also includes time as a principal in Caldwell USD 360, as an administrative intern at McPherson's Eisenhower Elementary and as a teacher in DeSoto USD 232. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Wichita State University, earned in 2018.
Rierson joins McPherson Assistant Superintendent Ty Rhodes, who interviewed April 14, as a confirmed candidate for the position. The school board is keeping the identity of the third and final candidate confidential until the morning of that candidate's scheduled April 24 interview. A final hiring decision is expected before the end of the month.
Rierson and his wife, Abbey, who serves as chief of staff at McPherson College, have four children.
