McPherson Middle School Track Dominates Newton Meet

NEWTON, Kan. — The McPherson middle school boys and girls track teams turned in a strong showing at the Newton meet, with the seventh-grade girls and eighth-grade girls each earning first-place team finishes while the eighth-grade boys took third and the seventh-grade boys placed fifth.

Elles Pavlovich set a new school record in the long jump with a mark of 17-7, while also running a 13.7 in the 100-meter dash and contributing to the eighth-grade girls' 4x100-meter relay that placed third in 55.3 seconds. Cole Barkley led the eighth-grade boys with a 1:00.2 in the 400-meter dash and a 5-4 mark in the high jump, while Kingston Slyter cleared 5-4 in the high jump as well and the eighth-grade boys' 4x100-meter relay posted a first-place time of 48.4 seconds.

Noelle Schmidt was a standout for the eighth-grade girls with a 2:53.73 in the 800-meter run and a 6:27.0 in the 1,600-meter run, and the eighth-grade girls' distance medley relay took first in 4:16.40, while Reese Kramer clocked a 1:05.40 in the 400-meter dash and a 6:07.50 in the 1,600 for the seventh-grade girls, and Audrey Pflughoeft posted a 1:11.30 in the 400 with a first-place relay time of 4:42.80 in the seventh-grade girls' 4x400-meter relay.
