Bullpups Sweep Wellington 13-0 in Perfect Conditions, Win 12 of 13 Matches by Shutout

McPherson Middle School's tennis team opened their season in commanding fashion Wednesday afternoon, blanking visiting Wellington 13-0 in what Coach Weiner described as "a fantastic afternoon for tennis." The Bullpups delivered a near-perfect performance, winning nine singles matches and three of four doubles contests by 6-0 scores, with only the #1 doubles match requiring more than a single set as Gwen Prieb and Hattie Krug secured a 6-3 victory. The dominant showing showcased the team's depth and improvement, with players demonstrating confident ball movement and strategic court positioning throughout the matches.

Individual standouts included #1 singles player Gwen Prieb, who controlled her match with excellent serving and precise ball placement, while Hattie Krug displayed her signature tenacity by "running every ball down in each point, repeatedly outlasting her opponent." The doubles tandem of Charley Duerksen and Addie Schneider impressed with their combination of strong net play and baseline shots, while Farah Britting's improved forehand and serve reflected "a summer of hard work." Coach Weiner particularly praised Brielle Rothrock's tactical intelligence and Lauren Southern's remarkable growth after just one year of playing experience. The Bullpups will look to continue their strong start with upcoming matches at Winfield and a home contest against Prairie Hills next week.
