Lady Pups Post 72% Win Rate, Highest of Any Team at Tournament
The McPherson Middle School girls wrestling team closed out their home season in dominant fashion Monday, posting a 72-percent win rate that topped all competing teams at the tournament. The Lady Pups showcased their depth and skill across multiple weight classes, with six wrestlers claiming first-place finishes and accumulating 77 total team points.
Leading the charge were McKaylee Peterson (73-84), Amanda Lauw (87-89), Ingrid Diaz (100-104), Hattie Krug (102-106), Sloan Shober (114-117), and Rheamy Rierson (120-129), who each went undefeated to capture gold medals. Peterson set the tone early with two quick falls, including a 59-second pin of Laiyla Simecka from Abilene in Round 2. Lauw proved equally efficient, recording back-to-back falls over Clearwater's Faith Freihage in 41 and 31 seconds respectively. Krug continued the trend with two falls in under a minute, while Rierson matched that pace with pins at 31 and 49 seconds. Diaz and Shober each contributed nine team points with their first-place performances.
McPherson also received strong showings from their second and third-place finishers. Serenity Peery (178-195) led all Lady Pups with 14 team points despite placing second, recording two falls after dropping her opening match. Evah Foster (92-99), Alexis File (113-119), and Kennedy Gant (131-143) each placed second in their respective weight classes, while Sophie Racines (105-112) took third. The balanced attack across all weight divisions demonstrated the program's depth as the Lady Pups head into the postseason with momentum and confidence.
