US Dent company relocates headquarters to McPherson
McPHERSON, Kan. — US Dent Company, a storm-damage and paintless-dent-repair business, is relocating its home base from South Carolina to McPherson, the company’s owners announced at Tuesday’s city commission meeting. The co-owners said a recent storm brought them to the area and they were impressed by the small-town atmosphere. They told commissioners the company recently purchased Hometown Motors and will operate locally as Hometown Dent. Former owner Dick Luthi introduced the new owners, praising their workmanship and character. US Dent’s website currently lists locations in Texas and South Carolina.
Multiple road and sidewalk projects nearing completion
McPHERSON, Kan. — Public Works reported several projects are on schedule: driveway and sidewalk repairs are complete on Myers Street; Elm Street is ready for seeding; on Northview, concrete crews began pouring sidewalks after state mix approval; and on West First Street, Kansas Paving shifted traffic to the eastbound lanes and started concrete cutting for pavement repairs.
Community-wide emergency response plan unveiled
McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Emergency Response Team outlined a comprehensive disaster plan that assigns roles to local businesses, churches and organizations in the event of a major emergency. The American Red Cross has certified multiple shelter sites, including McPherson College and The Cedars. Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance will provide insurance guidance, Peoples Bank and Trust will offer financial advice and numerous churches will serve as collection centers in coordination with the McPherson County Food Bank and Save ’N Share.
McPherson College to host cornhole tournament for first responders
McPHERSON, Kan. — Commissioners approved a McPherson College student request to host a cornhole tournament benefiting local first responders at Linnea Park on Nov. 9, 2025, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
Vandalism damages flashing stop sign at rural intersection
MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. – A flashing red stop sign located at Old U.S. 81 Highway and Arrowhead Road west of Moundridge was recently vandalized by gunfire, Public Works Director David Bohnenblust reported Monday. While the light is still functional, the damage will likely cause it to short out during the next rain. Crews were scheduled to replace the damaged sign immediately. The flashing lights were installed to improve safety at the intersection and are not federally required, but officials expressed frustration at the destructive act.
Solid waste plan renewed; county recycling rate exceeds state average
MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. – Commissioners approved the annual renewal of the McPherson County and Regional Solid Waste Management Plans. John Hawk, general manager of the McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility, reported the county’s recycling rate remains strong, fluctuating between 35 percent and 40 percent, above the statewide average of about 25 percent. Hawk noted that while recycling markets have been volatile since China curtailed purchases of U.S. recyclables, the county remains committed to the program as it saves valuable landfill space and reduces disposal costs. The only significant change in the regional plan was an amendment to accommodate the expansion of Harvey County’s construction and demolition landfill.
