McPherson launches 2026 All Schools Day button hunts with cash prizes
Hunters can win a share of $500 in traditional medallion and virtual public landmark contests
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The annual McPherson County All Schools Day Button Hunts will return May 1, offering residents a chance to win a share of $500 in cash prizes while celebrating the county's century-old education festival.
Participants can search for a traditional physical medallion or try to identify a specific local landmark in the virtual hunt, an alternative added about a decade ago that served as the sole event during the 2020 pandemic. The weeklong scavenger hunt runs through 11:59 p.m. May 7, with the first person to solve each contest claiming a $250 prize.
To enter either competition, hunters must carry a Button Hunt license and a $5 All Schools Day button, both available for purchase at Ad Astra Radio, 411 E. Euclid St. Organizers will release the first clue at 6 a.m. Friday on the All Schools Day website and Ad Astra Radio-McPherson social media pages, followed by daily hints at midnight.
The medallion and virtual hunt locations are visually accessible 24 hours a day. Organizers remind all participants to respect both public and private property at all times and to observe any posted curfews in the area. The traditional hunt winner will also keep the physical medallion as a collector's item.
