McPherson JV Tennis Sweeps Tournament Championships
White team edges Red squad 30-26 as Bullpups claim every division title in dominant showing

The McPherson JV girls tennis program showcased remarkable depth at their recent tournament, creating an unprecedented scenario where every championship match featured McPherson Red versus McPherson White.
McPherson White captured the overall team title with 30 points, edging their Red teammates who finished with 26 points. Andover placed third with 19 points, followed by Derby (13), Goddard Eisenhower (11), Hutchinson (5), Campus (4), and Newton (4).
White team dominated three of the four divisions, with Ava Miller and Nirmitha PremAnanth both posting perfect 4-0 records to claim first singles and second singles championships respectively. The doubles tandem of Sadie Krug and Audra Sandbo also went undefeated at 4-0 to capture first doubles. Azul Palacios and Kyla Lauw earned second place in second doubles with a 2-2 record after winning a pool play tiebreaker.
The Red team's lone championship came from the second doubles duo of Maddie Ekholm and Emily Reno, who posted a flawless 4-0 record. Erin Olson and Marie-Anne Holmes each finished 3-1 to claim second place in their respective singles divisions, while Piper VanCampen and Brenna Sullivan took second in first doubles with a 3-1 mark.
"It's not often you see an all-McPherson final across the board," noted the coaching staff. "Our girls fought hard all day and showed how much work they've put in over the summer and into the start of the season."
Beyond the competitive success, the tournament was highlighted by senior leadership. Avery Eveland organized a surprise birthday celebration for teammate Emily Reno, coordinating team-wide signatures on a card and leading the squad in singing "Happy Birthday" after the meet concluded.
"That was a tremendous example of leadership. It was a simple gesture, but it brought the whole team together," the coach remarked. "I love seeing our upper class players step up like that."
The dominant performance underscores the program's exceptional depth and team-first culture as the season progresses.
