McPherson JV Football Falls in Thriller to Chanute
Bullpups outpaced in fourth quarter despite strong offensive showing in 24-19 road loss

The McPherson JV football team fell just short in a back-and-forth battle Monday night, dropping a 24-19 decision to Chanute despite a explosive offensive performance that featured two touchdown passes of 25 yards or longer.
The Bullpups struck first with an 83-yard touchdown bomb from quarterback Isaac Nelson to Brody Hoffman, with Jaxon Hoover adding the extra point for an early 7-0 lead. McPherson's defense contributed to the scoring when Noah Sowers forced a fumble that Hoover recovered, though Chanute managed a safety to cut the deficit to 7-2 after one quarter.
Hoffman provided the game's most spectacular play in the second quarter, returning a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown after Chanute had tied the game at 7-7. Despite a blocked extra point, McPherson held a 13-10 halftime advantage after recovering an onside kick and narrowly missing a 44-yard field goal attempt by Hoover.
The third quarter saw more defensive fireworks as Bryson Clark forced a fumble recovered by Yony Banuelos, setting up Nelson's second scoring pass of the night, a 25-yard strike to Kinnick Anderson. Max Crane's two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving McPherson ahead 19-10. However, Chanute answered with a 70-yard touchdown pass and successful two-point conversion to tie the game at 18-18.
Chanute's 25-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner, as the Bullpups were unable to mount a final scoring drive.
