McPherson Girls Wrestling Competes at Newton Tournament of Champions

The McPherson High School girls wrestling team competed at the 5th Newton Girls Tournament of Champions, with seven Lady Bullpups earning a combined 20 team points at the event.

105 pounds: Lauw (5-13) scored 3 team points with a fall over Galvan Castillo of Newton before losing to Vrbas of Colby.

110 pounds: Reno (7-12) earned 3 team points, pinning Espinoza of Andover (2:23) before falling to Stephenson of Derby.

115 pounds: McQueen (12-9) contributed 3 team points with a major decision victory over Belote of Douglass (11-1) before losing to Pankey of Tonganoxie.

120 pounds: Mintzer (13-9) scored 5 team points with falls over Stukey of Great Bend (1:50) and a major decision over Nyland of Basehor-Linwood (10-2) before losing to Simpson of Goddard.

125 pounds: Dossett (16-10) led the team with 6 team points, defeating Davis of W. Northwest (1:56) and Fountain of W. North by decision (9-2) before losses to Loera of Garden City and Jones of DeSoto.

130 pounds: Klamczynski (2-7) went 0-2 at the tournament.

170 pounds: Fairchild (10-11) went 0-2 in her matches.

The Lady Bullpups competed against some of the state's top girls wrestling programs at the highly competitive tournament.
