The McPherson girls golf team rewrote the record books Tuesday at their home invitational, shooting a school-record 313 to finish second in a competitive 14-team field.

The Bullpups shattered their previous team scoring record by 16 strokes, finishing just five shots behind tournament winner Kapaun Mt. Carmel (308) and two strokes ahead of third-place Andover (315).

Senior Brodie Kuhn continued her stellar start to the season, tying for third place with a 72. The round marked Kuhn's fourth consecutive top-five finish to open the campaign, establishing her as one of the area's premier golfers.

Fellow senior Andi Buschbom provided consistent scoring with a 75, earning a tie for fifth place and helping anchor the Bullpups' record-setting performance.

Freshman Lleyton Kuhn made her mark in dramatic fashion, carding a personal-best 81 that included an eagle. Her tie for 14th place among 76 total competitors showcased the depth McPherson possesses across all class levels.

Junior Pera Bauer contributed an outstanding round of 85 to finish 23rd, falling just one stroke shy of her personal record. The performance highlighted the team's balanced scoring throughout the lineup.

Juniors Ari Prose and Rosario Schowengerdt both achieved personal milestones, with Prose shooting 104 for 42nd place and Schowengerdt carding 106 to tie for 44th. Both rounds represented personal bests for the players.

"What a great day for our team. I am so proud of all of them," said coach Fawl. "To beat a school record by 16 shots is incredible. Our senior leaders Brodie and Andi set the tone for us today, both coming out of the gate strong."

The coach particularly praised the team's mental toughness, noting that three players were competing in their first 18-hole tournament. "I was proud of them. All of our players battled to the very end," Fawl said.

The strong showing against quality competition provided a significant confidence boost for the Bullpups. "For us to be right in the mix with two of the best 5A teams in the state is a great confidence boost for us," Fawl noted, referencing Kapaun and Andover.

McPherson will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Hesston Golf Course on Friday for the Buhler Invitational.
