The McPherson Bullpups girls golf team delivered their best performance of the season at the Salina Central Invitational, shooting a team score of 334 to finish third in a competitive field that included some of Kansas' top programs.

The Bullpups' third-place finish came tantalizingly close to rewriting the record books, falling just five strokes short of the school record in the 64-player tournament.

Senior Brodie Kuhn paced McPherson with a solid round of 73, tying for fifth place overall. Fellow senior Andi Buschbom contributed an 82 to tie for 10th place, while junior Pera Bauer turned in a strong 86.

"I am very proud of our team today. 334 is a very good score," said Coach Fawl. "Brodie Kuhn played solid golf throughout the round."

Freshman Lleyton Kuhn rounded out the scoring with a 93, good for 20th place. Junior Addie French tied for 31st, while senior Leah Cahoone finished 38th.

The tournament showcased the depth of Kansas high school golf, with 6A powerhouse Manhattan capturing first place with a dominant 294. Bishop Carroll, one of the state's stronger 5A programs, claimed second with a 324.

Coach Fawl praised the resilience of several players who battled through challenging rounds. "Andi did not have her best stuff today, but she battled until the end," Fawl noted. "Pera Bauer had a great day shooting an 86. It was great to see her hard work paying off."

The coach also commended freshman Lleyton Kuhn's mental toughness. "She didn't have her best stuff, but found a way to hang in there."

The Bullpups will look to build on their strong showing when they travel to Wellington on Monday, September 15.
