MCPHERSON, Kan. — Older adults across McPherson County are experiencing safer, more accessible gathering spaces and increased food security thanks to nearly $430,000 in funding provided by the McPherson County Community Foundation over the past 25 years. The organization, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, highlighted its cumulative investments this month as part of a "Foundation Funds" retrospective. Local senior centers rely heavily on the grants to serve meals that address elderly food insecurity, as well as to maintain aging buildings that function as social hubs for rural residents.

The support has fueled major capital improvements across the county, including approximately $159,000 for the Inman Senior Center to complete ADA-compliant restroom renovations in 2025 and $67,000 for the Lindsborg Senior Center to acquire a transit van in 2023. Other beneficiaries include the Moundridge Senior Center, which received roughly $72,000 to replace dining room flooring, and the McPherson Senior Center, which used a portion of its $52,000 total for accessible doors and bathrooms. The foundation also is issuing a special round of 25th-anniversary "Dream Grants" this spring; the Windom Senior Center recently received $2,500 to upgrade coffee equipment at the town's primary morning gathering spot.
