MCPHERSON — The McPherson City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to transfer day-to-day supervision of two major city departments to the city administrator, representing a significant shift in how the city manages its internal operations.

The change, the first phase of a broader administrative restructuring, shifts direct oversight of the Public Lands and Facilities Department and the Convention and Visitors Bureau away from the city commissioners and to City Administrator Austin Regier.

The move is rooted in work the city has been doing over the past several years through its strategic plan to improve coordination across departments. As part of that effort, commissioners have begun transitioning supervision of department heads from the Commission to the city administrator, doing so in a phased approach within the city's existing structure.

Public Lands and Facilities and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are moving first, with additional departments to follow on a timeline commissioners will determine. An organizational chart presented during the meeting shows six department heads reporting directly to Regier under the new structure.

Regier also presented commissioners with an update on progress made toward this year's Strategic Plan goals.
