McPherson County implements $2,000 fee for driveway culvert installations

MCPHERSON, Kan. — Rural McPherson County property owners will now pay a $2,000 flat fee for the county to install driveway and field entrance culverts.

The McPherson County Commission voted unanimously to implement the fee to address a significant project backlog in the Public Works Department. Last year, the county installed 19 entrances at no cost to property owners. Commission documents indicate the free installations severely delayed scheduled county road maintenance and repairs.

The fee aims to recoup labor and equipment costs while reducing the backlog. Residents who wish to avoid the charge may obtain a free permit from the county and hire a private contractor or perform the installation themselves, provided the work passes county inspections and meets local size requirements.
