McPherson County Extension Launches Text Alerts for Cooking Classes

MCPHERSON, Kan. — K-State Research & Extension McPherson County has officially launched text-message notifications for its Teach & Taste and TACOL cooking programs, with more programs to follow. Participants who sign up will receive a reminder on the day of each event along with any schedule, location or cancellation updates. Residents should register using the email address tied to their original program signup so the system can link the alerts to their account. McPherson Lumber Company is sponsoring the new feature.

Taste Buddies 3.0 Returns for Third Year

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The Taste Buddies cooking program returns June 22–26 for its third year of cooking, creating and sharing recipes, with fresh dishes and new flavors on the menu. Sessions run daily from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the McPherson County Extension Office, 600 Woodside St. The program is free and open to returning and first-time participants.

Library Hosts Dinosaur-Themed Family Storytimes

MCPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Public Library is offering Family Storytimes featuring songs, movement and dinosaur tales designed to build early literacy through play and repetition. Sessions run Mondays at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. from June 1 through July 8 at the library, 214 W. Marlin St. The events are free.

Red Barn Studio Welcomes Artist-in-Residence Catherine Coughlin

LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Red Barn Studio Museum is hosting New England native Catherine Coughlin as artist-in-residence from June 22 to July 1. Her work explores experiences of relocation, including her own and those of early Kansas settlers and Native Americans. The museum, at 212 S. Main St., is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated.

Teen Movie Monday Screens Vintage Dinosaur Films

County Fair Holds Exhibit Judging and Rodeo

CANTON, Kan. — The McPherson County Fair continues July 17 with exhibit and photography judging, the rodeo pageant coronation, a meat goat show and a kids pedal tractor pull. A free barbecue feed runs from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. with a Friday rodeo ticket, followed by an 8 p.m. CPRA Rodeo with a calf scramble for children ages 8 to 12 and music by Brady Nichols and the High Plains Drifters.

'Oklahoma!' Returns to Swensson Park Band Shell

LINDSBORG, Kan. — Broadway RFD, Kansas's longest-running outdoor theatre, presents "Oklahoma!" at the Swensson Park Band Shell, 400 N. Main St., from July 17–25. Evening performances begin at 8:30 p.m. in a summer tradition dating to 1959; attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

County Fair Closes With Demolition Derby

CANTON, Kan. — The McPherson County Fair wraps up July 18 at the fairgrounds, 1514 27th Ave., with a sheep show, beef show, 4-H Round Robin, a buffalo chip throwing contest at 6 p.m. and a 7 p.m. demolition derby. A breakfast at the Canton American Legion runs from 7:30 to 10 a.m., with evening entertainment by Dax Beason.

4-H Fair Opens With Fashion Revue and Horse Show

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County 4-H Fair begins July 20 at 710 W. Woodside St., with fashion revue and sewing judging at 1 p.m., a public fashion revue and demonstrations at 4 p.m., horse show check-in at 5 p.m. and the horse show at 6 p.m.

MCPHERSON, Kan. — K-State Extension McPherson County rents a wide variety of specialty cake pans, including character, holiday and uniquely shaped designs. Officials say the affordable rentals offer an alternative to buying a pan that may be used only once, and a full online catalog is available through the Extension Office.
