MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — A lightning strike ignited a crude oil storage unit Saturday evening on Moccasin Road just north of Galva, resulting in an explosion and fire. The McPherson County Sheriff's Office responded alongside local fire units to contain the blaze. Authorities initiated a brief, localized evacuation, but first responders brought the fire under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — A high-speed pursuit that began in Saline County ended safely Saturday morning near the 57-mile marker on Interstate 135 in McPherson County. According to the McPherson County Sheriff's Office, the driver, identified as 39-year-old Angel Marin Flores of Wichita, was successfully apprehended without any injuries or damage to the vehicles involved.

McPherson Community First Responders' Night to feature BearCat and K-9 demonstrations

MCPHERSON, Kan. — Lakeside Park will host McPherson Community First Responders' Night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The community event will feature live demonstrations by the McPherson Police Department K-9 unit and a showcase of the county's BearCat armored vehicle, providing residents an opportunity to interact with McPherson County first responders in a relaxed environment.

County development valuations double last year's total

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — McPherson County is experiencing a major surge in development, with Planning, Zoning & Environment Director Jon Kinsey reporting year-to-date case valuations sitting at roughly $55 million. The figure is nearly double the $28 million total valuation recorded for the entirety of last year. Kinsey recently approved a permit for a new $6 million development south of McPherson that will push the year-to-date total near $62 million.
