Higher Learning Commission Approves Open Pathway Status for Local Institution

McPherson College Secures Decade-Long Accreditation Renewal

MCPHERSON, KS — McPherson College has received reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) following a comprehensive review process, securing the institution's academic standing for the next decade. The HLC's Institutional Actions Council not only renewed the college's accreditation but also invited McPherson to pursue the prestigious Open Pathway for its next 10-year cycle, demonstrating confidence in the college's commitment to innovation and educational excellence. This pathway allows the institution to focus on strategic initiatives while maintaining rigorous academic standards, with scheduled reviews including a virtual assessment in year four and a Quality Initiative project between years five and nine.

The reaffirmation represents the culmination of extensive campus-wide preparation, including the development of a 35,000-word assurance argument supported by nearly 500 pieces of evidence demonstrating compliance with HLC's five core criteria. "Dozens of faculty, staff, and students contributed to the assurance argument and prepared the campus for our site visit team," said Sandra Heibert, director of institutional assessment and academic compliance. McPherson College, which has maintained continuous accreditation since 1921, joins 950 institutions nationwide accredited by the HLC, with its next comprehensive review scheduled for the 2034-35 academic year.
