McPherson College will launch a paid Pep Band program beginning in fall 2026, offering students the opportunity to perform at select football, volleyball and basketball games while earning compensation for their musical talents. The new ensemble will work closely with the athletics department and Student Affairs to enhance school spirit and create a more engaging game-day atmosphere for fans.

"With the launch of a paid pep band, I'm excited to see band students getting more active across campus and performing music in different places other than our traditional concert venues," said Kyle Hopkins, associate professor of music and director of bands. While band students have previously volunteered to play at athletic events, the formal program represents an expansion of performance opportunities. Students interested in joining the Pep Band will not be required to participate in Concert Band, though those who choose both ensembles will be eligible for additional financial aid. Students can express their interest by visiting www.mcpherson.edu/apply.
