McPherson City FC 2014 Claims Victory at Beat the Heat Tournament
Youth squad edges Oklahoma Energy FC on head-to-head tiebreaker to capture Edmond crown
EDMOND, Okla. — The McPherson City FC 2014 Mid Kansas United girls soccer team kicked off their fall season in championship fashion, capturing first place at the Beat the Heat 2025 Girls Tournament in Edmond, Oklahoma, on August 9-10. Despite finishing tied on points with Oklahoma Energy FC Pre-ECRL2, both teams earning 9 points in round-robin play, McPherson secured the title thanks to their crucial 2-1 head-to-head victory over the Oklahoma squad.
The championship run featured a balanced team effort from McPherson's roster, which included regular squad members Payton Busse, Hattie Christiansen, Adalie Church, Hadley Fischer, Halle Schneider, Amaya Sullivan, and Adelyn Davison along with three younger club players—Ayeslee Curl, Aubrey Davison, and Ellie Fischer from the 2016 team. Guest players from Hays—Hattie Enslow, Hattie Simpson, and Leighton Terry—also contributed to the tournament success. McPherson posted a 3-1 record through the weekend, including victories over FC Dallas Youth (2-1), West Side Alliance SC (4-2), and Oklahoma Energy FC White (4-1), with their only setback coming in a 2-4 loss to West Side Alliance. The team's +3 goal differential and critical win over their closest competitor sealed their first-place finish in the competitive five-team bracket.
