Scholarships Available for Agriculture and Food Science Students The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee is accepting applications for the Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Scholarship until March 5, 2026. Open to McPherson County high school seniors and undergraduates pursuing degrees in agriculture or food-related fields, the full scholarship is valued at $4,450, comprising a $3,200 academic award and tuition for the AFA Leaders Conference. Since its establishment in 2001, the fund has awarded 36 comprehensive scholarships and 14 conference-only awards based on criteria including career goals, leadership, and financial need.

Online Boot Camp Launches for Aspiring Restaurateurs A six-week "Foodpreneur Boot Camp" designed to assist aspiring restaurant and food truck owners will begin online the week of Feb. 9. The program, which costs $99 for participants despite a $300 value, targets individuals starting a food business or those in operation for less than 18 months. The curriculum includes eight learning modules, weekly Zoom meetings with coaches, and business implementation tasks, with registration open until early February.

Senior Center Showcases Renovations and Expanded Services Following significant damage from a grease explosion, the McPherson Senior Center has completed renovations that include a new commercial refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a serving window. During a recent Chamber Connections event, Director Sally Scott highlighted the center's vital community role, noting that it provided over 3,500 rides last year and continues to serve affordable meals through its Silver Spoon program. The center, which is preparing to expand ADA-accessible bathrooms as its next major project, also introduced two new board members at its recent annual meeting.

Kansas Day Celebration Set for McPherson Museum The McPherson Convention & Visitors Bureau, McPherson Museum, and Maxwell Wildlife Refuge will co-host a Kansas Day Celebration on Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The event at 1111 E. Kansas Ave. features a lunch of bison burgers and chips for $5, followed by free afternoon activities including cookies, coffee, crafts, and an "America’s 250th Scavenger Hunt".

School District to Host Bond Information Sessions USD 418 has scheduled "Come and Go" community information sessions to educate the public on the March 3 bond plan. The first session is set for Feb. 3 at McPherson Middle School, followed by a second session on Feb. 5 at McPherson High School, both running from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Volunteers will provide childcare while attendees learn how the bond intends to support strong schools and inspired students.

Button Design Contest Announced for All Schools Day The McPherson Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries for the 113th Annual McPherson County All Schools Day Button Design Contest. Artists must submit designs reflecting the theme "Star Spangled Celebration" by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, to be considered for the annual tradition.
