Main St. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 13, officially welcoming owner Jody Unruh’s long-held dream to the downtown business district. Unruh, who has ten years of experience and a passion for flowers dating back to childhood, introduced her "flower bar" concept where customers can purchase stems in varying quantities, alongside fresh bouquets and greenery-inspired gifts. In addition to retail offerings, Unruh plans to continue her work with wedding and event florals, including a new line of faux floral rentals.

Bikeshare Program Launches to Boost Mobility

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and Tandem Mobility, is launching a five-year bikeshare initiative designed to enhance local transportation and health. The program will install three bike racks and 15 bikes at key locations throughout the city, aiming to improve accessibility and engagement with local businesses. With a significant investment already secured from BCBS of Kansas, the Chamber is currently seeking community sponsors to match the remaining $60,000 funding gap to support the project’s $12,000 annual cost.

Citizen Journal, a digital news platform founded in 2025 by McPherson native Greg Loving, is expanding its reach with a mission to restore common information spaces through concise, accessible journalism. Staff members, including Molli Fawl and sports reporter Treg Fawl, emphasize the platform's commitment to clarity and community connection, filling a void in local coverage while remaining free to readers through local business support.

Foundation Celebrates Anniversary with ‘Dream’ Grants

To mark its 25th year of service, the McPherson County Community Foundation is offering "Dream" grants of up to $2,500 for projects that create positive local impacts within the county. Unlike traditional funding cycles, these special anniversary grants are open to informal community groups and individual residents in addition to nonprofit organizations, encouraging creative ideas for community beautification, recreation, and programming.
