New floral business set to open on Main Street Glass House Greenery, a new botanical business founded by Michael and Jody Unruh, is scheduled to open its primary location at 210 N. Main St. on Jan. 12, 2026. The business, which began as a passion project in 2023, will offer high-quality plants, seasonal florals, and a "choose your own bouquet bar." A Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, to mark the official opening of the storefront, which aims to serve local gardeners and event planners.
United Way campaign nears fundraising goal The United Way of McPherson County has raised 70% of its $315,000 campaign goal for the year, with fundraising efforts continuing through Jan. 31, 2026. The organization supports 19 local nonprofit programs focused on health, education, and financial stability, including the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which has gifted over 45,000 books to county children since 2019. Campaign Chair Alaina Polston emphasized that donations sustain partner agencies that provide essential services to the community.
ReUse It Center breaks annual donation record The ReUse It Center announced a record-breaking year of philanthropy, contributing $108,250 to local causes in 2025, surpassing its initial goal of $51,000. Located at 120 S. Hwy 81 Bypass, the center has donated a total of $704,445 since its inception. The organization credited strong community support for the unprecedented financial impact, which represents the highest single-year total in the center’s history.
Accounting firms to merge in new year Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC (SJHL) announced a merger with BT&Co., effective Jan. 1, 2026. The merger will expand SJHL’s footprint by adding a location in Topeka, Kansas, alongside its existing McPherson operations. The firm stated that the move is intended to strengthen its service capabilities and regional presence in the accounting and financial services sector.
Leadership McPherson opens registration for 2026 class Registration is now open for the Leadership McPherson Class of 2026, a professional development program that has operated since 1982. The course is designed to help participants identify personal strengths, understand team dynamics, and address local challenges through collaborative problem-solving. Class members will also participate in a service project benefiting youth in McPherson County as part of the curriculum.
Community Christmas Dinner to serve free meals The 29th Annual Community Christmas Dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 25 at the McPherson Community Building, 122 E. Marlin. Supported by local businesses and volunteers, the event offers a free holiday meal to the public, with home delivery options available for those who signed up by Dec. 23. Organizers noted that the dinner is open to all residents, continuing a long-standing tradition of holiday hospitality in the city.
Downtown gaming venue to host New Year’s Eve event The Village Geek, located at 116 N. Main, will host a New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., featuring open board gaming and a midnight toast. Tickets for the event are available for presale at $20, increasing to $25 on Dec. 30. The event offers a sober, community-focused alternative for residents to celebrate the holiday, though participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
