McPherson Dairy Queen Grill & Chill highlights community involvement

Al and Etaf Awar, owners of McPherson Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, 1435 N. Main St., recently hosted guests to celebrate four years of ownership and their ties to the community. Etaf, a professor at McPherson College whose family has owned the Hutchinson Dairy Queen for more than four decades, said the family has felt welcomed in McPherson.

Since purchasing the restaurant, the Awars have invested in several upgrades, including an expanded parking lot, a widened drive-thru for larger vehicles and a new grill purchased last year that cooks a burger in 74 seconds. Beyond serving Stackburgers, chicken strip baskets and ice cream treats, the business sponsors local schools, sports teams, churches, McPherson College and the McPherson Police Department's K-9 program. Customers can view the menu, order online or download the app for rewards at dairyqueen.com.

American Legion Post 24 to host Veterans Story Night

American Legion Post 24, 401 N. Main St., will host Veterans Story Night on June 16, featuring guest speaker Joe Pfannenstiel. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the storytelling program at 6:30 p.m. Additional upcoming events are available on the American Legion website.

Registration open for Brick Lab Pirate Camp

Students in grades 1-3 are invited to participate in Brick Lab Pirate Camp from 9 a.m. to noon June 16-19 at the McPherson County Extension Office, 600 W. Woodside St. Participants will design ships and catapults, master navigation and collaborate as a crew on high-seas adventures. Registration closes June 15.

McPherson Public Library to screen "Meet the Robinsons"

McPherson Public Library, 214 W. Marlin St., will host a free screening of "Meet the Robinsons" at 1 p.m. June 18. The library will provide popcorn and water, and attendees may bring candy, pillows, blankets or stuffed animals. Registration is required.

McPherson American Legion to host Family Night fundraiser

McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main St., will host Legion Family Night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. June 18 to support Honor Flight. For $6, attendees may choose four items from a menu that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, drinks and desserts, with a limit of two meat items per person. Proceeds will support Honor Flight.

Nex-Tech Wireless and CVB sponsor free "GOAT" movie night

McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave., will host a free screening of "GOAT" at 7 p.m. June 19. Sponsored by Nex-Tech Wireless and the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau, the 2026 Movie Mania event will include an activity and free snacks provided by McPherson Pizza Ranch.

McPherson Community Theatre stages "Willy Wonka" over two weekends

McPherson Community Theatre will present Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" June 19-21 and June 26-28 at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main St. The musical follows young Charlie Bucket as he wins a golden ticket to tour Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are available on the Opera House website.

McPherson Parks Department hosts 19th annual Youth Fishing Derby

The McPherson Parks Department will host its 19th annual "Daddies, Buddies, & Bobbers" Youth Fishing Derby from 8 to 11 a.m. June 20 at Lakeside Park, 510 Lakeside Drive. The event is open to children up to age 15, with prizes awarded in each age bracket for the largest fish caught. Lindsborg Midsummer's Festival set for June 20

Lindsborg Midsummer's Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 20 at the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum and downtown Lindsborg. The day will include entertainment, food, crafts, Viking reenactments and demonstrations, Swedish dancing, the annual Kubb tournament, the raising of the Midsummer's Pole and community dancing until sunset.

The Village Geek to host Customer Appreciation Party

The Village Geek, 116 N. Main St., will host a Customer Appreciation Party from 7 to 11 p.m. June 20. Attendees will have access to exclusive deals, and prizes will be awarded for completed rewards cards, including a $250 shopping spree.

First responder peer support training scheduled

Serving Heroes First Responder Peer Support/Chaplain Training will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 at the McPherson Community Building, 122 E. Buhler-based IdeaTek, 111 Old Mill Lane, has been named to Inc. magazine's 2026 Best Workplaces list, ranking among the top medium-sized businesses in the nation. The recognition is based on an independent, anonymous workforce survey administered by Quantum Workplace, where IdeaTek earned a score of 90.42 out of 100. When asked to describe the company culture in one word, employees overwhelmingly chose "flexible."

Registration opens for online Foodpreneur Bootcamp

Network Kansas and the Small Business Development Center are bringing back the Online Foodpreneur Bootcamp, a six-week online program designed to help Kansas food entrepreneurs launch or grow restaurant or food truck businesses. Running July 16-Aug. 27, the program features eight self-paced online modules, practical implementation tasks and weekly coaching sessions with ORA experts at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays. Docere Fitness offers shoulder care sessions for overhead athletes
