The McPherson Center for Health, 1000 Hospital Drive, is advising residents to stay safe in the summer sun by drinking water throughout the day. Health officials recommend applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, wearing a hat and seeking shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., typically the hottest part of the day. Residents experiencing early signs of heat-related illness — such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, excessive sweating or muscle cramps — should move to a cool place, drink fluids and seek medical attention if symptoms do not improve.
