McPherson College Unveils Upgraded Athletic Facilities
Holman Fieldhouse at McPherson College has completed extensive renovations over the past two years, including a 5,200-square-foot addition with new seating, a state-of-the-art weight room, expanded training facilities, and upgraded performance spaces to support nearly 600 student athletes. Director of Athletics Josh Daume highlighted successful fall sports seasons, with football finishing 9-2 for its best year since 2010 and volleyball coach Cory Cahill earning KCAC Coach of the Year honors.
Chamber Hires New Marketing Specialist
The McPherson Chamber of Commerce has hired Jessica Schierling of Inman as its new Marketing and Membership Specialist. Schierling, who owns and operates Diamond S Cattle Co with her husband Devin and children Kash and Kella, plans to focus on in-person business visits to determine how the Chamber can better serve the community.
Leadership McPherson Accepting Applications
Registration is now open for Leadership McPherson Class of 2026, the Chamber's community-based professional development program that has equipped participants since 1982 to view leadership as an activity while helping them recognize strengths, understand team dynamics and practice collaborative problem-solving. The program invites participants to join the next class to be part of shaping McPherson's future.
Free Holiday Movies Continue at Opera House
The McPherson Opera House will show the free holiday film "The Star" on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. at 219 S. Main, with concessions available for purchase. The free movies are part of the holiday promotion sponsored by numerous local businesses including Artshirt, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty.
Multiple Santa Photo Opportunities Scheduled
Children can visit Santa Claus at three locations this week, including Thursday, Dec. 18 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Advanced Physical Therapy on 400 W. 4th St., and Saturday, Dec. 20 from 9:30-11 a.m. at The Clayworks at Disability Supports and 1:30-3 p.m. at Nex-Tech Wireless on 200 S. Champlin. The events are part of the McPherson Chamber and Main Street Holiday Promotion.
Community Christmas Dinner Seeks Volunteers
The 29th Annual Community Christmas Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 25 at the McPherson Community Building at 122 E. Marlin, with volunteers needed for setup on Dec. 24 and preparation and service on Christmas Day. The free dinner is paid for through the generosity of area businesses and individuals, with home delivery available by calling or texting 620-747-2760 by noon on Dec. 23.
