McPherson BPU offers tips to maximize summer energy savings

The McPherson Board of Public Utilities is reminding customers that individual Coincident Peak Demands rates, which determine year-round capacity and transmission charges, are set based on electricity usage during the summer months of June through August. Because the system's peak demand historically occurs Monday through Friday between 1 and 7 p.m., BPU advises customers that reducing electricity consumption during this window can lead to significant cost savings throughout the rest of the year. BPU encourages customers to lower charges by shifting non-essential processes to mornings, late evenings and weekends, managing HVAC and cooling loads with programmable thermostats, avoiding running multiple high-demand operations simultaneously, and staggering equipment startup times. For questions, contact McPherson BPU Customer Service at 620-245-2515.
