McPherson prepares for 113th All Schools Day celebration

The 113th All Schools Day "Star Spangled Celebration" will bring a full week of parades and community gatherings to McPherson, continuing a tradition honoring eighth-grade graduates that dates back to 1914. Co-chairs Lindsay Helms and Kyler Jost note that the event is heavily funded and supported by button sales, and a record 132 entries from this year's Button Design Contest are currently on display at the McPherson Museum. The schedule features May Fete student performances, a carnival at Wickersham Park, youth airplane rides at the McPherson Airport, an ice cream social at the McPherson Museum, Plaza Jam and Playtime in the Park, culminating with All Schools Day After Dark at Wall Park. May Fete to showcase local school age children's talents over two nights

The May Fete program will showcase the talents of school-age children from across McPherson County at 7 p.m. on May 6 and May 7, featuring different performers each night. The Wednesday night performance will be held at the Lakeside Park Bandshell at 511 N. Lakeside Drive, with the high school auditorium serving as a rain location. The Thursday night performance will take place at the McPherson High School Auditorium, located at 801 E. First.

All Schools Day brings parade, Madathon and airplane rides to McPherson

The annual All Schools Day celebration on May 8 will feature pre-parade sales at downtown Main Street businesses from 8 to 10 a.m. and community yoga with Elysium Studios in Memorial Park from 8 to 9 a.m. The All Schools Day Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a live broadcast available at adastraradio.com/all-schools-day/ for those unable to attend downtown. A baby crawl will kick off afternoon activities at 12:30 p.m. at Linnea Park, followed by the fifth grade Madathon at 1 p.m. and the eighth grade Madathon at 3 p.m. Free youth airplane rides for ages 8 to 17 will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the McPherson Airport, located at 1100 S. Highway 81 Bypass.

McPherson Museum to host homemade ice cream and live music

The McPherson Museum, located at 1111 E. Kansas, will host a homemade ice cream social and a live musical performance by The Relics at 2 p.m. The event is free with an All Schools Day button, available in limited quantities, and attendees will also be able to view the 2026 button art entries on display.

BPU to present electric safety demonstrations at Community Building

Trained professionals will showcase real-world scenarios involving high-voltage power lines and explain how to respond safely in dangerous situations during BPU Electric Safety Demonstrations from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Building.

All Schools Day After Dark Celebration to feature concert and fireworks at Wall Park

The All Schools Day After Dark Celebration will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Wall Park, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The free event will feature a beer garden, food trucks, fireworks at dark, and a free concert headlined by special guest performer The Blaine Younger Band, with opener Hwy 14 and pre-opener Rylan Unruh.

Leadership McPherson Class of 2026 to celebrate graduation and reveal project

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Advisory Committee will celebrate the graduating Leadership McPherson Class of 2026 on May 5 at the McPherson Opera House. During the event, the class will reveal their class project designed to benefit the youth of McPherson, with a class picture and additional information to follow soon.

McPherson CVB to host National Travel & Tourism Week events

The McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau, located at 1111 E. Kansas Ave., will celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week with multiple events from May 5-8. Festivities include free popcorn from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and free bingo from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, both at the McPherson Community Building. The CVB will also sponsor the ASD After Dark Celebration at Wall Park from 6 to 11 p.m.

Pleasant View Home offers premade bierocks fundraiser

Pleasant View Home, located at 108 N. Walnut in Inman, is holding a premade bierocks fundraiser from May 4-5. The fully cooked and frozen bierocks are available for $10 per half-dozen, with a service fee added for online payments. Orders can be placed online or by calling 620-585-6411 through May 5. Customers can pick up their orders from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 13 and May 14 at the Pleasant View Home reception desk.

Music on the Plaza to feature Jaydon Evans and Deluge

The City of McPherson Public Lands & Facilities Department will host Music on the Plaza at noon on May 6 and May 13 at the McPherson Plaza, located at Marlin and Main. Country musician Jaydon Evans will perform on May 6, followed by the band Deluge on May 13. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch and a seat.

Lindsborg Community Hospital to host free Brain Health Day screenings

In partnership with the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Lindsborg Community Hospital will offer free memory screenings for Brain Health Day to help community members stay proactive about their cognitive health. Appointments are available at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the hospital, located at 605 W. Lincoln in Lindsborg. Space is limited, and interested individuals must make an appointment by calling 785-227-3371 and asking for Kolby at Ext. 620.

Pine Village to host Benefit Day Car Show and BBQ meal

Families are invited to the Benefit Day Car Show and BBQ Meal on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pine Village, located at 86 22nd Ave. in Moundridge. The event will feature food, inflatables, local caricature artist Brad Voth, and other family-friendly activities.

McPherson Senior Center to host presentation on the history of the Harvey Girls

Dr. Michaeline Chance-Reay will present a talk on the economic and cultural history of the famous Harvey Girls on May 13 at 1 p.m. at the McPherson Senior Center, located at 112 E. Euclid. The presentation will include stories of the women employed by the company in Kansas and the American Southwest, as well as its founder, Fred Harvey, who lived in Leavenworth.

Free Teach & Taste class on Southwestern enchiladas scheduled

The McPherson County Extension Office, located at 600 W. Woodside, will host a free Teach & Taste Class to make Southwestern enchiladas on May 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Attendees must RSVP or register for the class by calling the office at 620-241-1523 or visiting the McPherson County Extension Office Facebook page.

Summer Kick Off Party scheduled at McPherson Public Library and Memorial Park

The McPherson Public Library and Memorial Park, located at 214 W. Marlin, will host a Summer Kick Off Party on May 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in partnership with the McPherson County Health Department. Families can enjoy interactive booths, local food, the "Things That Go Show," and register for the "Unearth A Story" summer reading program while discovering local seasonal opportunities.

K-State Research and Extension to host annual wheat plot tour

The K-State Research & Extension McPherson County Annual Wheat Plot Tour will begin on May 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the MKC Learning Center, located at 221 W. Hirschler St. in Moundridge. The event includes a lunch provided by MKC featuring speakers Romulo Lolloto, Tina Sullivan, and Dr. Kelsey Anderson Onofre, followed by a 1 p.m. tour of the Galle Plot near Moundridge, located a quarter-mile north of the intersection of 23rd and Cheyenne, and a 3:30 p.m. tour of the Schroeder Plot near Inman, located a quarter-mile east of 4th and Cheyenne.

The Ark Antiques & Flea Market purchases Kansas Barn Sale

The Ark Antiques & Flea Market, located at 301 S. Main St., has purchased the Kansas Barn Sale from creator Beki Garcia to continue her passion for handcrafted and vintage items. The next Kansas Barn Sale will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the McPherson Community Building at 122 Marlin St. Vendors are permitted to set up their booths the evening before the event, and attendees can purchase tickets online via the event's website.
