The U.S. Small Business Administration announced expanded support for small manufacturers through its enhanced International Trade Loan Program. The new initiative, called the "Made in America Loan Guarantee," is designed to help restore manufacturing dominance for small businesses.
Federal guarantee program opens to manufacturers and food supply chain businesses
Beginning May 1, manufacturers in NAICS Sectors 31-33 and newly eligible businesses across the food supply chain can access strengthened financing options offering a 90% federal guarantee to help upgrade equipment, modernize facilities, hire workers and boost domestic production. The update aligns with broader federal efforts to bolster U.S. industrial capacity and reshore critical supply chains.
Pizza Ranch & FunZone Arcade celebrates second anniversary, becomes national training store
Pizza Ranch & FunZone Arcade, located at 206 N. Main in McPherson, is preparing to celebrate its second anniversary next month while expanding its operations to become one of only eight national training stores in the United States. Majority owner Joe Parrott announced the McPherson location will host trainees from across the country for up to eight weeks at a time, a move expected to benefit downtown shops and local hotels. Co-owner and manager Donnie Bean highlighted the restaurant's ongoing Community Impact Fundraising Events, typically held on Monday nights, which donate 10% of sales to local nonprofits and community groups that participate by busing tables. In addition to a buffet featuring pizza, chicken, a salad bar, and desserts—as well as gluten-sensitive and vegetarian options—the restaurant provides extensive catering services capable of serving groups ranging from five to 1,000 people. McPherson Public Library offers hammer printing craft session
The McPherson Public Library, located at 214 W. Marlin, will host this month's "Crafts with Cara" session at 10:30 a.m. on April 15, focusing on the striking art of nature printing. Participants will explore the unique technique of hammer printing, also known as Tataki Zome, which uses the natural pigments of flowers and leaves to create beautiful botanical designs on fabric or paper. Registration is required as space is limited to 15 participants, and attendees are encouraged to secure their spots in advance.
Free cybersecurity essentials online seminar offered for small businesses
Michael Aumack, public information officer for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Wichita, will present a free "Cybersecurity Essentials for Small Business" online seminar at noon April 16. The session will cover common cybersecurity risks facing small businesses, typical vulnerabilities that can lead to cyberattacks or data breaches, best practices for protecting business data, employees and customers, and resources available to help strengthen preparedness. Registration is available online.
Highway 56 Sales Scramble returns for second year
The 2nd Annual HWY 56 Sales Scramble will take place from the 23rd through the 26th, offering 200 miles of garage sales, mom-and-pop shops, eateries, flea markets, antique malls and other treasures along Highway 56. The event is organized by The Ark Antiques & Flea Market, located at 301 S. Main, where participants can register their sale or business and learn more.
Retirement reception planned for Meals on Wheels director
Meals on Wheels of McPherson, Kansas, will host a come-and-go retirement reception for Director Connie Grennan from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the 24th at the Hess Education Center at McPherson Hospital, 1000 Hospital Drive. Grennan is retiring after 25 years of service to the organization.
Meadowlark Trail grand opening set for National Rails to Trails Day
A grand opening celebrating the completion of 12.4 miles of trails connecting McPherson and Lindsborg will take place at 11 a.m. on the 25th at the Meadowlark Trail entrance off Quivira Road. The event is being held in conjunction with National Rails to Trails Day 2026.
Central Christian College of Kansas partners with McPherson Police Department
Central Christian College of Kansas, located at 1200 S. Main, is working with the McPherson Police Department on a joint training facility. The agreement allows local law enforcement agencies to use a campus building for tactical training while giving criminal justice students hands-on access to a law enforcement training simulator.
McPherson Public Library features Anya Vykhopen as April and May artist
Anya Vykhopen of His Vessel Art Co. is the featured artist at the McPherson Public Library, located at 214 W. Marlin. Originally from Florida and now calling McPherson home, Vykhopen uses her paintings and mixed media to share her faith and reach people exactly where they are. Her inspirational art will be on display at the library through May.
McPherson County Extension seeks feedback through program impact survey
The McPherson County Extension, located at 600 W. Woodside, is inviting anyone who has attended a K-State Extension program to share how it impacted them through an online survey. Participants are asked to share whether they gained new knowledge, changed a habit, improved a skill or strengthened their community, as the feedback will help evaluate the impact of the programs and enhance services offered to individuals, families and communities.
Pine Village offers pulled pork and ribs preorder for benefit day
The Pine Village Benefit Day Pulled Pork and Baby Back Ribs Fundraiser is once again combining with the Annual Car Show to offer pulled pork by the pound and baby back ribs by the rack for preorder. All meat is cooked by BJ's BBQ and comes packaged and ready to eat or freeze. Orders can be made online or by returning a preorder form to Pine Village, and all orders must be submitted by 4 p.m. on April 24.
