PBS episode brings influx of tourists to McPherson businesses
Ad Astra Radio celebrates 40 years of local broadcasting in Central Kansas
Ad Astra Radio, a family-owned hometown broadcasting network serving Central Kansas with 11 radio stations and 15 signals, is celebrating its 40th year in business. Owner Chris Shank noted the company, which started in 1986, operates a local hub at 411 E. Euclid in McPherson for four stations: KMCP 98.9 FM, KMCP 1540 AM, KLBG 95.5 FM and KMPK 96.7 FM. The network offers diverse programming, including News & Public Affairs Director Lucky Kidd's daily updates, interactive shows like the "Swap Shop," and broadcasts of Kansas City Chiefs games. Expanding beyond traditional radio, which Shank notes 93% of Americans listen to monthly, Ad Astra Radio recently added a digital billboard in McPherson to promote local events and continues to host events like Chamber Connections. Kansas SBDC hosts free digital visibility webinar for World Cup prep
The Kansas Small Business Development Center will host a free online "Business Webinar- Digital Visibility During the World Cup" from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the 7th. The webinar will provide best practices and simple steps to help local businesses get noticed and attract international travelers coming to the region for the World Cup. Advance registration is required online.
United Way to host Grateful Giving Celebration at McPherson Museum
The United Way of McPherson County will host a Grateful Giving Celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the 7th at the McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation, located at 1111 E. Kansas Ave. The event will honor generous donors and highlight the impact of their support across the community and its partner agencies.
First Bank Kansas to offer free document shredding event
First Bank Kansas will host a free shred event from 9-11 a.m. on April 11 at 1301 N. Main. Community members can properly dispose of sensitive documents and old bills, with all shredded material slated for recycling. Participants are limited to five bags or boxes per person.
SHRM Central Kansas to host leadership training session
Hosted by SHRM Central Kansas, a leadership training session titled "Maximizing Impact: Where Leaders Should Spend Their Time" will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 14 in the Community Room of the Hospice & Home Care Building at Doctor’s Park S, Hutchinson Regional Healthcare, 2020 N. Waldron in Hutchinson. National speaker Mike Henke will present strategies to help leaders shift their focus from being busy to being effective by identifying high-impact activities, prioritizing tasks, delegating effectively, and eliminating time-wasting habits. Registration for the session is $75.

American Legion Family Night fund raiser meal supports local kids
The McPherson American Legion will host a Family Night Fund Raiser Meal from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 401 N. Main. The meal costs $6 and includes a choice of four of the following items: hamburger, hot dog, fries, drink, and dessert, with a maximum of two meats allowed. Proceeds from this public event will go to support Christian Church Rock Solid Kids, providing an opportunity to enjoy fun and fellowship while backing a worthy cause in the community.
Classic Stones Live tribute band brings Rolling Stones hits to McPherson Opera House
Classic Stones Live will perform at 7:30 p.m. on the 17th of the month at the McPherson Opera House, located at 219 S. Main. The tribute band features front man Keith Call as Mick Jagger alongside Bernie Bollendorf as Keith Richards, together known as “The Glimmer Twins.” The duo delivers spot-on performances of Rolling Stones classics with exceptional musicianship and meticulous detail, and tickets can be purchased online through the McPherson Opera House’s website.
McPherson Housing Coalition hosts Brush Up Mac volunteer event
The McPherson Housing Coalition will host the "Brush Up Mac" event on the 18th of the month at the United Methodist Church, located at 1200 E. Kansas. Farmer's Market returns to Three Rings Brewery for the season
The Farmer's Market will return to the patio at Three Rings Brewery, located at 534 Old US Hwy 81, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Geared toward later risers, the market will be held on the third Saturday of each month, with upcoming dates scheduled for May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, and Sept. 19. Vendors interested in selling goods at future markets are encouraged to reach out via email.
McPherson Public Library celebrates National Library Week
The McPherson Public Library, located at 214 W. Marlin, will celebrate National Library Week from the 19th through the 25th of the month. This year's theme is "I'm So Happy You're Here! Find Your Library Joy!" and patrons are encouraged to visit the library's website at macpl.org to discover specific programs and events happening throughout the week.
Midway Motors Supercenter welcomes new service manager
Brian Guffey has been named the new service manager at the Ford Chrysler store at Midway Motors Supercenter, located at 2075 E. Kansas. Due to a recent fire, Guffey is currently working out of the GM store, but he is excited to connect with customers and begin his new role in the community.
McPherson Pizza Ranch selected as certified training restaurant
The McPherson Pizza Ranch, located at 206 N. Main, has been selected as one of only eight Certified Training Restaurants out of more than 220 locations. The restaurant will host trainees for six to eight weeks at a time, bringing new visitors to town and supporting local hotels, shops, and other restaurants along the way. The achievement is credited to their amazing team and is considered a significant win for the entire McPherson community.

The featured locations included Noffy's Sandwich Shop & Pub at 122 N. Main, the McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation at 1111 E. Kansas, and the McPherson Opera House.
Three Rings Brewery launches new mobile app for customers
Three Rings Brewery, located at 534 S. 81 Bypass, has transitioned from sending out email newsletters to launching a dedicated mobile app. The app allows customers to stay connected with taproom events, receive specials and participate in a newly created loyalty program. Users can download the app by searching "Three Rings Brewery" in the App Store on their iPhone or Android devices.
The Citizens State Bank promotes Lorenzo Alderson to vice president of operations
The Citizens State Bank, located at 223 N. Main, has promoted Lorenzo Alderson to vice president of operations, where he will continue overseeing digital services while broadening his responsibilities across additional operational functions. Alderson joined the bank in April 2011 as a teller in the McPherson branches and later served as a teller manager in Hesston and Moundridge. In 2019, he spearheaded the bank's call team development before being promoted to assistant vice president of eServices.
Lindsborg Community Hospital welcomes Dr. Zakaria Tazkargy to Family Health Care Clinic
Lindsborg Community Hospital, located at 605 W. Lincoln in Lindsborg, has added Dr. Zakaria Tazkargy, M.D., to the provider team at its Family Health Care Clinic. A family medicine physician who previously served patients at COMCARE Ohio in Salina, Tazkargy cares for individuals of all ages. His clinical expertise includes managing acute and chronic conditions, providing preventive and behavioral health services, and offering comprehensive skin and musculoskeletal care.
McPherson High School recognized as 2026 All Star High School
McPherson High School, part of McPherson USD 418 at 514 N. Main, has been recognized as a 2026 All Star High School for the fourth consecutive year. The annual recognition reflects the district's ongoing commitment to building a strong, sustainable college-going culture and empowering students toward postsecondary success through personalized guidance with college applications, job applications and financial aid opportunities.
Safehope promotes Sexual Assault Awareness Month this April
Safehope, located at 121 W. Marlin, Suite 101, is recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, marking 25 years of utilizing the month to show unity and support to survivors of sexual assault. The organization encourages community members to wear teal, the official color of sexual assault awareness, as a simple gesture to spark conversations, honor survivors and help bring greater visibility to the cause of stopping sexual violence.
Elliott Law relocates to former McPherson Psychological Associates building
Elliott Law, LLC has moved to a new location at 114 N. Main St. The downtown business property was the former home of McPherson Psychological Associates.
