City purchases land for sports complex expansion

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The City Commission approved a real estate agreement to purchase approximately two acres of land from New Hope Church for $65,000 plus closing costs to support the neighboring Grant Sports Complex to the northwest. The property, located on the north side of the church's existing grounds in Eagle's Wings Estates, is scheduled to close on Friday.

EMS agreement extended pending new contract

MCPHERSON, Kan. — City Commissioners approved a motion to extend the current Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agreement with McPherson Center for Health to ensure service continuity while the parties finalize a new contract. The pending agreement is expected to incorporate revenue from the half-cent countywide sales tax passed last year.

McPherson City Commission reduces meeting frequency to twice monthly

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission approved a new meeting schedule Tuesday that will reduce regular sessions from every other week to twice monthly, beginning in February. Charter Ordinance 48, passed during the Feb. 3 meeting, clarifies existing language requiring the commission to meet at least biweekly by specifically setting the requirement at twice per month. The commission also adopted Resolution 26-01, which establishes the meeting schedule for the remainder of 2026, with sessions continuing at 8:30 a.m. in the Municipal Center City Commission Room at 400 E. Kansas Ave., followed by study sessions in Conference Room A/B. "As the commission strives to do more with less, we are attempting to be more thoughtful and efficient with staff's time," said Mayor Jim Loving. The change brings McPherson in line with meeting frequencies used by other Kansas cities, and the commission will annually adopt resolutions outlining each year's specific meeting dates. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17.
