MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city's governing body unanimously approved a payment of about $72,000 to KA-COMM of Salina to replace the city's emergency medical services department's fleet of portable radios. The expenditure is intended to ensure first responders have updated, reliable communication devices for emergency coordination.


Fire department secures funding for volunteer bunker gear

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The McPherson Fire Department will purchase eight new sets of Morning Pride bunker gear from Delta Fire & Safety after securing recruitment-and-retention funding to offset part of the cost. The remainder will be paid from the department's operating budget, officials said.


Police department partners with Central Christian College for training

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The McPherson Police Department and Central Christian College of Kansas will collaborate on a new training facility after the city's governing body approved a memorandum of understanding. The agreement would allow the city and surrounding law enforcement agencies to use a campus building for tactical training, while giving criminal justice students hands-on experience with a training simulator.


Police to deploy new software to track stolen property

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The McPherson Police Department will use investigative software from LeadsOnline to help track stolen goods after the city's governing body approved a service agreement. The tool allows law enforcement to monitor transactions at scrap metal yards and pawn shops, helping officers identify and recover stolen items.


City to finance its share of a street reconstruction project near McPherson College

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city's governing body authorized financing to cover the city's portion of the Eshelman Street reconstruction project near McPherson College. Officials said the city and the college negotiated a cost-sharing arrangement for the infrastructure work.


Bridge inspection costs rise under new state requirements

MCPHERSON, Kan. - Professional Engineering Consultants was awarded a contract to conduct the city's 2026-2027 safety inspections for city bridges. Public works officials said the cost came in well above the city's initial budget estimate because of expanded reporting requirements under Kansas Department of Transportation standards, requiring the city to shift funds from other budget line items.


City launches interactive public zoning map

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city of McPherson has launched an interactive zoning district map on its official website. The public-facing tool allows residents and developers to search parcels, view zoning designations and access property information.


Hotel tax revenues to fund local tourism events

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The local tourism board awarded visitor-attraction grants funded by hotel guest tax revenues to support several local events. Recipients included the McPherson Gem and Mineral Club, organizers of a Highway 56 Sales Scramble event associated with The Ark Antiques & Flea Market and the Rolling Thunder Gamefest.
