City approves joining state wildfire response program
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission unanimously approved an agreement with the Kansas Office of the State Fire Marshal to add the McPherson Fire Department to the state wildfire response program. Under the contract, which runs for a multi-year term, the city agrees to potentially deploy a brush truck, a command vehicle and three personnel to assist with wildfires across the state. Fire Chief Chad Mayberry told commissioners the program is fully reimbursed by the state and functions similarly to a mutual aid agreement, allowing the department to decline a call or cancel the agreement if local resources are stretched too thin.
