McPherson Center for Health Hosts 4th Annual "Mammos & Mocktails" Event
Celebrating early detection, advanced technology, and community connection
McPherson Center for Health recently hosted its 4th annual Mammos & Mocktails, an event dedicated to women's health, early detection, and adding a touch of fun to an important health screening. This year marked a significant milestone as participants could take full advantage of the hospital's new stereotactic breast biopsy technology, allowing women to receive advanced diagnostic care immediately following their screening mammogram if necessary. Combined with 3D mammography, these cutting-edge tools enable earlier and more accurate detection—all close to home. The event also featured an innovative waitlist initiative led by Radiology Office Coordinator Courtney Long, who reached out to patients overdue for mammograms to help them get scheduled and join the celebration. Women traveled from throughout the region to participate, including a former McPherson resident who made the trip from Salina specifically for the event.
"We've had such a positive response over the years," said Tammy Field, Director of Radiology. "It's been wonderful to see not only the community engage with the event, but also our CAREgivers who volunteer to help with wayfinding and registration." Field emphasized that success isn't measured in numbers but in peace of mind, noting that if the event helps someone feel comfortable enough to return next year or identifies something early, "that's a win." The Women's Imaging and Diagnostic Center boasts more than 66 years of combined mammographer experience within McPherson's 5-Star Center for Health—a point of pride that reflects the facility's commitment to exceptional care. Field credited the event's success to consistent support from senior leadership, dedicated CAREgivers, and the Radiology scheduling team. Women due for their annual mammogram are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 620-241-2251 EXT 3950 or visiting mcphersoncenterforhealth.org.
