McPherson Center for Health Adds Advanced Equipment for Worker Fitness Testing
New technology will provide more precise evaluations for local employers and employees.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Center for Health has installed a second-generation Physical Capacity Testing Machine in its Occupational Medicine Department to better serve local employers with objective assessments of worker fitness and capabilities. The wireless equipment evaluates upper and lower body function individually, helping address common workplace injuries like shoulder, back and wrist conditions that affect area industries. "This equipment allows us to assess physical function with greater precision and consistency," said Erica Selzer, PA, noting it removes subjectivity from functional exams and gives employers confidence in hiring and training decisions. The system supports pre-employment evaluations, post-injury assessments and fit-for-duty testing with faster turnaround times, responding to increased demand from local businesses for comprehensive worker evaluations. Clinical support staff member Tanaka Huff completed specialized certification to operate the equipment, allowing the department to schedule simultaneous patient visits and improve access to care. The enhanced testing capability also supports planned onsite employer visits, strengthening partnerships with local businesses while reinforcing the medical center's role as a trusted occupational health resource in the community.
