McPherson Bullpups Dominate Ranked Chanute in Home Opener
Ashton Malm catches four touchdowns as Bullpups rout fifth-ranked Blue Comets 42-12

The McPherson Bullpups delivered a statement victory in their home opener Thursday night, dismantling fifth-ranked Chanute 42-12 in an impressive display of offensive firepower.
Junior wide receiver Ashton Malm stole the show with a spectacular performance, hauling in five catches for 218 yards and four touchdowns against the 4A Blue Comets. Malm's combination of speed, athleticism and ball skills proved too much for Chanute's defense to handle.
Junior quarterback Carter Bengtson orchestrated the aerial assault, completing passes for 287 yards while finding Malm repeatedly for big plays. The passing attack complemented a balanced ground game that kept the Chanute defense off balance throughout the contest.
Sophomore Brody Milleson provided a steady presence in the backfield, grinding out 111 yards on 17 carries. Junior Dane Becker added 78 yards on 15 attempts while contributing a rushing touchdown to the balanced offensive attack.
The victory against a ranked opponent showcased the Bullpups' potential as they continue to develop their identity this season. The dominant performance on both sides of the ball demonstrated significant improvement from their early-season struggles.
McPherson's convincing win moves them to 2-1 on the season and provides momentum heading into a challenging road test. The Bullpups will look to build on this breakthrough performance when they travel to Winfield on Friday night.
