McPHERSON, Kan. — First responders will receive a wave of new equipment and technology following a series of unanimous City Commission approvals, including a nearly $72,000 investment in emergency radios. The commission did not provide a date for when the votes were taken.

The city awarded a $71,978 contract to Salina-based KA-COMM to replace the Emergency Medical Services department's fleet of portable radios, ensuring reliable communication during emergency responses. Commissioners also approved a $30,068 purchase from Delta Fire & Safety for eight new sets of Morning Pride bunker gear for the McPherson Fire Department. The gear purchase is partially offset by an $11,170 recruitment and retention grant, with the remainder paid from the department's operating budget.

The McPherson Police Department secured two additional approvals. The commission unanimously authorized a $4,620 agreement with LeadsOnline Solutions for investigative software that monitors transactions at scrap metal yards and pawn shops to help officers identify and recover stolen goods.

Additionally, police finalized a memorandum of understanding with Central Christian College of Kansas for a joint training facility. The agreement allows local law enforcement agencies to use a campus building for tactical training, while giving criminal justice students hands-on access to a law enforcement training simulator. No financial consideration attached to the memorandum was disclosed.
