MANHATTAN, Kan. — Mike Marsh, the longtime athletic director at Manhattan High School, announced his retirement during last week's USD 383 board meeting, ending a career with the district that spans more than 25 years. Marsh, who began working for the district in 2000 as assistant athletics director and administrative assistant at the former MHS East Campus, has served as athletic director since April 2004, shortly after becoming assistant principal in 2003. A Manhattan High graduate himself from the Class of 1983, Marsh played quarterback under legendary coach Lew Lane and led the Indians to a 16-4 record during his two seasons under center in 1981-82. His family's connection to Manhattan schools runs deep — he moved to the community in 1971 when his father, Marvin, became principal at what was then Manhattan Junior High.
