A Mount Hope man who stopped to give medical aid after a crash in southeastern Reno County was critically injured Monday, Oct. 5, when a second collision at the same intersection struck him, the Reno County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were dispatched about 7:37 a.m. to the intersection of Boundary Road and Victory Road. While responders were en route, dispatch told them a pedestrian had likely been struck.

According to the sheriff's office, a juvenile driving an eastbound Ford Edge crossed the center line to make a gradual left turn onto Boundary Road. The Ford struck a westbound Toyota RAV4 driven by Ayat Tbaba of Mount Hope. Nicholas Hilger of Mount Hope saw the crash, stopped nearby and got out of his vehicle to help.

Two other Mount Hope drivers, Nicholas Meyer in a Chrysler Town & Country and Geralynn Hilger in a second Ford Edge, had stopped in the eastbound lane after the first crash.

According to the sheriff's office, a Mercury Milan driven by a juvenile then hit the rear of the Ford Edge Geralynn Hilger was driving. The impact forced that vehicle into the Chrysler and struck Nicholas Hilger.

Emergency medical services took Nicholas Hilger to an area hospital. Geralynn Hilger and the juvenile driver of the first Ford Edge were taken to an area hospital in stable condition, and everyone else involved was evaluated by EMS and released at the scene.

The sheriff's office said the crash remains under investigation. Its release does not say whether anyone has been cited.
