Man Accidentally Shoots Himself in Arkansas City

ARKANSAS CITY — A man suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh Wednesday evening after accidentally discharging his own firearm, according to the Arkansas City Police Department.

Police and Arkansas City Fire/EMS responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound in the 1100 block of South Summit at approximately 9:50 p.m. Feb. 12.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his thigh. He was treated at the scene by Arkansas City EMS and transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center for further treatment.

The initial investigation indicates the man was intoxicated and accidentally discharged his own firearm, causing the injury.

The incident remains under investigation. Any potential criminal charges will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney's Office for review.
