Local Law Enforcement Conducts Active Shooter Response Training
Multi-agency exercise held at Roosevelt Elementary School

MCPHERSON, KS — The McPherson Police Department and McPherson County Sheriff's Office conducted joint active shooter response training at Roosevelt Elementary School, emphasizing preparedness for potential emergency situations. Sergeants Burkhart and Caballero from the McPherson Police Department, along with Sergeant Jackson from the Sheriff's Office, led officers and deputies through Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT), which included interactive scenarios for room clearance, radio communication protocols, and proper tourniquet application techniques.
The comprehensive training exercise allowed law enforcement personnel to practice various response styles in both individual and team-based scenarios, simulating real-world conditions that officers might face during an active threat situation. The multi-agency collaboration reflects a commitment to coordinated emergency response capabilities across jurisdictions. Local volunteers served as role players during the exercises, helping create realistic training scenarios, while Roosevelt Elementary School provided its facilities for the drill during non-school hours. The training ensures that local law enforcement maintains current best practices for protecting the community in crisis situations.
