Local EMS Partnership Raises Over $500 for Disability Support Organization

Hutchinson, KS – What started as a simple autism awareness campaign has blossomed into a meaningful community partnership, with Reno County EMS and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center's Emergency Room teaming up to support local disability advocacy.

The collaboration, which began with the launch of specially designed autism awareness shirts in April, has successfully raised $557 for Beyond Barriers, a Hutchinson-based organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.

"These shirts were always meant to be more than just a fashion statement," said a representative from Reno County EMS. "We wanted to create something that would have a lasting impact on our community."

The fundraising effort represents the strong bond between emergency medical services and the communities they serve. By partnering with the HRMC Emergency Room staff, the initiative was able to reach a broader audience and maximize its impact.

Supporting Local Independence

Beyond Barriers, the beneficiary of this fundraising campaign, has built its mission around what they call a "zero entry" approach – removing barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from achieving independence. The organization works throughout the Hutchinson area to promote inclusion and provide support services.

"Organizations like Beyond Barriers are doing incredible work right here in our backyard," noted an EMS team member. "They're focused on breaking down the obstacles that stand between people with disabilities and the independence they deserve."

The partnership highlights a growing trend of emergency services organizations taking active roles in community support beyond their traditional response duties. For Reno County EMS, this effort represents their commitment to giving back to the community that supports them daily.

Building Awareness, Creating Change

The autism awareness shirt campaign served a dual purpose – raising funds while simultaneously promoting understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity. The initiative aligns with Beyond Barriers' broader mission of encouraging inclusion and standing in solidarity with individuals of all abilities.

"Every day, we see the strength and resilience of the people in our community," said an HRMC ER team member. "This partnership allows us to support that strength in a tangible way."

The success of this fundraising effort demonstrates the power of collaboration between healthcare providers, emergency services, and community organizations. As Reno County EMS noted, the community's love and support drives their commitment to giving back.

Beyond Barriers continues to serve the Hutchinson area with programs designed to promote independence and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. Those interested in learning more about the organization can visit their website at beyondbarriersks.com.

The partnership between Reno County EMS, HRMC ER, and Beyond Barriers serves as a model for how emergency services can extend their community impact beyond traditional response roles, creating lasting positive change through collaborative fundraising and awareness efforts.
