Local Agencies Conduct Active Shooter Training at Elementary School
Multi-agency exercise tests emergency response coordination and preparedness

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Police Department, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and Eisenhower Elementary School hosted a comprehensive multi-agency training exercise this week involving law enforcement, fire, EMS, 911 dispatch, and school personnel. The drill simulated an active shooter scenario at the elementary school, with patrol officers responding to neutralize the threat, clear rooms, and assist injured volunteers who played victims in the exercise.

Following the initial scenario, responders faced a second training situation involving a suspect with an explosive device and hostage. McPherson's Special Response Team, negotiators, and drone unit participated in the evacuation and threat response portions of the drill. The large-scale exercise allowed participating agencies to evaluate their coordination and response capabilities as a unified team.
