City mourns passing of former Mayor John Magnuson

LINDSBORG, Kan. - The City Council took a moment Monday to honor the memory of former Lindsborg Mayor and McPherson County Commissioner John Magnuson, who passed away over the weekend. The mayor offered official sympathies to the Magnuson family on behalf of the city, recognizing his long history of public service to the community.

Council approves over $142,000 transformer purchase amid supply chain warnings

LINDSBORG, Kan. - The City Council unanimously approved the purchase of three-phase pad-mounted transformers from Solomon Corporation for $142,500 to support the city’s electrical infrastructure. Public Works Director Denny Walker advised the council that the purchase was necessary due to long lead times for such equipment, which currently stand at 60-80 weeks. Walker stated the proactive purchase would ensure the city has the necessary transformers on hand for future residential and commercial development, preventing potential project delays.

City approves $15,000 for annual sewer maintenance program

LINDSBORG, Kan. - To prevent sewer backups and maintain city infrastructure, the City Council approved a quote from Meyer Specialty Services for its annual sanitary sewer line cleaning program. The contract, not to exceed the budgeted amount of $15,000, will cover cleaning approximately one-fifth of the city’s sewer mains. Public Works Director Denny Walker noted that Meyer’s quote of ninety-five cents per linear foot was significantly lower than a competing bid. He credited the long-running program with having “all but eliminated sewer backups.”

Donation funds $22,840 expansion of Scentral Bark Dog Park

LINDSBORG, Kan. - Lindsborg’s Scentral Bark Dog Park is set for a major expansion, fully funded by a private donation from an individual with ties to the area. The City Council on Monday approved bids totaling $22,840.99 for the project, which will add a new fenced-in pen, a pergola and two memorial benches. The donation is being processed through the McPherson County Community Foundation. The council approved a bid from a local fencing contractor for the new pen and another from a local construction firm for the pergola and benches, opting not to select the lowest fencing bid due to concerns about the bidder's experience.
